An Independent School
Oakwood is a not-for-profit educational institution with local management and independent governance in the form of a Board of Directors (or Trustees). Oakwood is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) which is generally accepted as the highest standard of accreditation in the Western United States (for both public and private educational institutions).
Oakwood is not affiliated with any religious organization, and does not receive funding from any church association. As an independent school, Oakwood does not receive funding from the local, state or federal government. The school operates with revenue generated by the tuition and fees it charges its students, however, tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating each child. The school grows and thrives as the result of robust parent volunteerism and charitable donations. As a not-for-profit school, all proceeds remain in the school to support its mission.
Oakwood knows that your child’s education is important to you and that it represents possibly your most important investment. We also recognize that affording a private school can represent a significant challenge, and may dissuade a family from considering enrollment. Oakwood provides outreach to the community through merit-based scholarships and needs-based financial aid. Our overriding goal is to promote academic excellence by providing outstanding students, regardless of financial resources, the opportunity to benefit from an Oakwood education and reach their full potential.
The Oakwood Scholarship Program provides scholarships for top students to attend Oakwood. Scholarships are merit-based and require proof of high academic performance and the recommendation of the scholarship committee who interviews the candidates and reviews their qualifications. Applications are accepted for students entering 4th-12th grade who are new to the school (not previously attended Oakwood).
Students who are committed to excellence in their school work and desiring to receive a top college-preparatory education at Oakwood are invited to apply. The application process is confidential and awards are not publicly announced. Scholarship Applications are separate applications, and must be submitted at the same time as the online/enrollment application by the application deadline in order to receive full consideration. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information about the Scholarship Application process.
Oakwood is pleased to be able to offer financial aid to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to attend Oakwood. Assistance is available for a limited number of families who demonstrate a financial need and also demonstrate exemplary commitment to the school. Students must also be in good academic and behavioral standing.
The family's personal financial information is submitted to Oakwood via a secure, third party administrator, and is reviewed to determine financial need. If the family qualifies financially, the family's commitment and the student's standing will also be reviewed. All awards of financial aid are contingent on the family's and the student's continued support of the school. Similarly, if a family's financial condition improves, the family is expected to notify the school so aid can be adjusted accordingly. All financial aid awards, and any communications surrounding this process, are confidential.
Financial Aid applications for new students (applying for the 2017-2018 school year) are due February 3, 2017 in order to receive full consideration. The financial aid application process is separate from the admission application, though the two must be done simultaneously if a family anticipates needing aid.
If you have questions about the aid application process, please contact the Admissions Office.
