Oakwood 9th graders took 1st place at the Thrive Young Innovators Challenge in Salinas on Friday. Contestants worked in teams to tackle the challenge: "How would you feed 9 billion people in 2030?" The challenge drew 120 students from 15 schools throughout Monterey County, many who had more students than our team of five. They built a prototype of a Multi-Environment Greenhouse and wowed the judges, winning $2,500 in cash and a free trip to Silicon Valley tech companies.
