Our merriment is contagious

Enrichments

At Oakwood we treat each child as an individual and nurture the talents and interests of every student, while fostering the whole child's development.

Our students enjoy a well-rounded, balanced educational experience.

In addition to the engaging and educational activities they do with their homeroom teacher, preschool, jr. kindergarten and kindergarten students also visit specialty teachers in dedicated classrooms for engaging experiences to expand their learning.

Even at this young age, your child is ready to delve deeper—and at Oakwood, our teachers can lead curiosity as far as it can go. Going to different classrooms, studying with expert teachers who all deeply love their subjects—not only can our students handle it, they thrive on it.

Musical Movement

Students enjoy singing, percussion band and exposure to a variety of children's songs. Musical Movement facilitates body and space awareness, and develops gross and fine motor skills. The various elements of movement are taught and self-initiated movement and expression through music, poems and stories allows for creativity and dramatic expression.

Library

During visits to the Oakwood Library, students can indulge their love of books, whether their favorites be about animals, adventure, machines or fairies. They learn about different types of literature and authors, perform research to assist in classroom projects, check out books for their enjoyment and relax while listening to books chosen especially for their class by the librarian.

Spanish

Starting in Kindergarten, students attend Spanish class where they learn simple conversation, including greetings. Vocabulary development is facilitated through recognition of familiar objects and simple commands and directions are learned by using puppetry and song. Students are also introduced to the culture and customs of Spanish-speaking countries.

Physical Education

Kindergarten students participate in P.E. classes with a dedicated, specialty teacher. They develop large muscle strength and coordination in arms and legs through repeated use of outdoor and indoor activities and play equipment. Students learn the power of teamwork in a safe risk-taking environment while growing self-confidence through positive recognition and communication.

It's like living in a musical. It's like they just break out into song.
