Program Overview

The Oakwood Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is an age appropriate program with Preschool, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten options that foster the development of children 3 to 6 years old. We lead children through a proven curriculum that gives them plenty of space to explore. Children learn to work, play and share with others while developing academic readiness through curriculum and enrichment programs that provide a strong foundation for future academic and social growth, in a warm and nurturing, child-centered environment.

Preschool Offerings

2, 3 & 5 day programs

1/2-day: 8:00am-11:00am
3/4-day: 8:00am-1:00pm
School-day: 8:00am-3:00pm
Full-day: 8:00am-6:30pm


A Day in Preschool

Morning Circle

Morning Calendar routine allows students the opportunity to learn months, current date and sing Days of the Week song. Fun and engaging games, the selection of today's "Happy Helper" and other jobs kick off a fun day of learning. Students also say the Pledge of Allegiance each morning.

Snack and Outdoor Play

Students have snack time and have several opportunities to play in the sandbox, ride tricycles, climb the play structure or play ball with friends.

Academics and Enrichments

Students participate in hands-on exploration of facts about our world including animals and space. Creative discovery allows them to see science in the world around them. Students also use various mediums to create free art, directed art and specific projects for holidays and special events. Music time allows students to sing and dance to their favorite songs as they play musical instruments making their own joyful music.

Students visit specialty teachers in dedicated classrooms for engaging experiences in Musical Movement and Library to expand their learning.

Exploration and Discovery

Students have the opportunity to independently explore games and toys or engage in dramatic play or water/sand activities. Other activities include cutting, tracing, sequencing, art, Play-doh and writing exercises while socializing with friends.

Students participate in a language arts reading program that integrates a systematic approach to reading, writing and spelling by using a balanced mixture of songs, rigor and fun to develop foundationally strong readers. The math program supports learning through real world, hands-on experience for strong math development. Students learn to write their numbers and explore foundational mathematics. Science and nature exploration and experimentation encourages students to look beyond the classroom and engage with magnets, sink and float activities, color mixing and observing plants grow. Students also use various mediums to create free art, directed art and specific projects for holidays and special events.

Students visit specialty teachers in dedicated classrooms for engaging experiences in Musical Movement and Library to expand their learning.

Exploration and Discovery

Students can choose from avarety of free-choice stations including dramatic play, art stations, math game zone, science corner and library reading corner and more.

A Day in Kindergarten

Morning Circle

Students say the Pledge of Allegiance each morning. Their morning calendar routine allows them the opportunity to learn days of the week, seasons and weather. Additional circle time includes classroom jobs and special morning activities.

Students have both a snack and lunch time and have several opportunities to play in the sandbox, ride tricycles, climb the play structure or play ball with friends.

Academics and Enrichments

The reading and language arts program engages students to become strong readers, writers and spellers through our phonics and literature based reading program with an application of literature. The math curriculum supports problem solving centered learning with an emphasis on developing strong number sense. The history program allows students to explore the seven continents and step back in time to meet Native Americans, presidents of Mount Rushmore and early settlers and explorers. Students also use various mediums to create free art, directed art and specific projects for holidays and special events.

Students visit specialty teachers in dedicated classrooms for engaging experiences in Science, Spanish, Physical Education, Musical Movement and Library to expand their learning.

Exploration and Discovery

Project based learning activities allow students to integrate the real world into classroom learning. Kindergarten students write their own travel journal as they explore the world in history and geography.
