Degrees, Credentials, and Certifications

Derek Denny is the 8th grade Literature and 7th grade Writing teacher at Oakwood School. He is currently entering his 14th year of teaching, having spent time teaching both middle and high school in Los Angeles and Watsonville. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in both Modern Literature as well as History of the Americas and Africa from UC Santa Cruz, from which he graduated Cum Laude in 2011. While at UC Santa Cruz, Mr. Denny was a pitcher on the club baseball team and worked as a Resident Advisor in Porter College. After leaving UC Santa Cruz, Mr. Denny earned his teaching credential from UC Irvine. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Denny can be found waking up early to watch Premier League matches and F1 races, attending concerts, weightlifting, traveling the world, and reading science fiction and detective novels.
