Colleen Blanchard is Oakwood School’s Upper School Drama Teacher and Performing Arts Chair, and has been directing shows in the South Bay for all ages for over 20 years. In addition to directing, she has theatrical experience in lighting design, set design, acting, singing, and choreography. Mrs. Blanchard is a proponent of a comprehensive theatrical education, encouraging students to learn all aspects of staging a production. Her classes include instruction on directing, character analysis, stage movement, lighting and costume design, set and prop construction, and history of the art form. She believes students learn best when they are doing rather than watching, and she provides plenty of opportunities for students to get hands-on experience with every element of the theatrical arts.
