Affording Oakwood

An Oakwood Education is an Investment for the Future

Oakwood knows that your child’s education is important to you and that it represents possibly your most important investment. We also recognize that affording a private school can represent a significant challenge, and may dissuade a family from considering enrollment. Oakwood is committed to putting an exceptional education within reach through merit scholarships and need-based financial aid. Our mission is to promote academic excellence by educating outstanding students, regardless of financial resources, and to provide access to the education that helps all students reach their full potential.

An Independent School

Oakwood is a not-for-profit educational institution with local management and independent governance in the form of a Board of Directors (or Trustees). Oakwood is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) which is generally accepted as the highest standard of accreditation in the Western United States (for both public and private educational institutions).

Oakwood is not affiliated with any religious organization, and does not receive funding from any church association. As an independent school, Oakwood does not receive funding from the local, state or federal government. The school operates with revenue generated by the tuition and fees it charges its students, however, tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating each child. The school grows and thrives as the result of robust parent volunteerism and charitable donations. As a not-for-profit school, all proceeds remain in the school to support its mission.

Oakwood provides merit scholarships to new students in grades 4 through 12 for academic excellence, outstanding citizenship, and positive contribution to the school and community. The Oakwood Scholarship Program is designed to make it possible for top students to attend Oakwood. Scholarships are granted by recommendation of the Scholarship Committee, after interviews with the candidates and review of their qualifications. Scholarship applications are accepted for students who are new to the school, and are submitted as part of the Admissions application. Applications submitted by the deadline receive full consideration and all awards are confidential.

  • Outstanding academic standing at current school

  • Extracurricular activities with a positive contribution to the school or community

Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $15,000 per year, and recipients complete a renewal process annually.

Please contact the Admissions Office for more information about the Scholarship Application process.

Financial Aid

Oakwood is pleased to be able to offer financial aid to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to attend Oakwood. While Oakwood’s financial aid budget is limited, we encourage families who need assistance to apply. The financial aid application is managed separately from the general admissions process, however both must be done during the admissions season if a family anticipates the need for aid. Aid applications are submitted directly to FAST, a third-party vendor, who verifies the financial data provided by each family.

Families may apply for financial aid at any time, however please see the Important Dates page for the annual deadline in order to be in the first round of consideration for a given academic school year.

Financial Assistance Process for Prospective Families

  2. Submit a financial aid application and tax documents through FAST.
  3. Receive notification of any aid awarded at the time of the admissions decision. Please note that eligibility for admission to Oakwood is determined entirely independent of the aid application submitted.
