Early Childhood

Oakwood offers a number of preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten program options to meet a child’s developmental needs as well as a busy family’s schedule.

Although Oakwood will accept students who meet the birth date requirements indicated below, it is strongly encouraged that parents of children with fall birthdays consider waiting to enroll their child as an older member of their class, rather than the youngest. Years of experience have shown tremendous benefits of such a choice.

Preschool Offerings

2, 3 & 5 day programs

1/2-day: 8:00am-11:00am
3/4-day: 8:00am-1:00pm
School-day: 8:00am-3:00pm
Full-day: 8:00am-6:30pm

Readiness Requirements:

  • Recommended that children turn 3 years old by Aug 31
  • Children must be 3 years old by Nov 30
  • Child must be full potty trained by entrance date.

Kindergarten

Readiness Requirements:

  • Recommended that children turn 5 years old by Aug 31
  • Children must be 5 years old by Nov 30
  • All students entering kindergarten complete an assessment appointment with an Oakwood teacher to confirm readiness for this grade level. The Gesell testing method provides an overall picture of the whole child's development, taking into consideration social, emotional, physical, cognitive and adaptive development.

  • Assessment appointment with Oakwood teacher
  • Teacher Recommendation form
  • Family interview for applicant and parent(s) with Lower School Head & Principal (scheduled after assessment appointment is complete and teacher recommendation form has been received)
