"Oakwood is such a special place and had a huge impact on my life, so it is important to me to continue engaging in the Oakwood community even though it’s been over 10 years since my high school graduation. I graduated from Notre Dame Law School this past May, took the bar exam in July, and recently began my career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York City."

"As a teacher now, I often reflect on my time as a student and my experiences in class. So many faculty members left a lasting impression on me but I do want to highlight some special experiences that I carry with me every day.

I spent 14 years of my academic life at Oakwood and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a Hawk."

Rochan Kavulli '24

"After graduating from Oakwood in 2024, I took that summer to hang out with friends and relax before heading off to college. Currently, I dorm with my twin brother at USC and I've been having a great time. I'm part of the USC Rocket Propulsion Lab, which I was inspired to join after seeing Oakwood's SSE club, where I camped in the freezing Nevada Desert (and saw my first rocket launch!)."

Oakwood launched its Senior Project program last May, which offered seniors the opportunity to spend the last two to three weeks of the year completing a mini-internship or undertaking a passion project instead of attending normal classes. The Senior Project is meant to be a capstone to the student’s high school experience and to propel them into the greater world.

All Senior Projects are completed under the supervision of an adult mentor, who assists the student during their “apprenticeship” and verifies that they uphold their commitments and responsibilities. During the inaugural year of Senior Projects, Oakwood alumnus Bobak Bagheri '16 served as one of those mentors, taking on senior Lazar Cankovic for a brief internship at Sakuu.

"Lazar spent his time at Sakuu working on project management as well as with our data engineering team to start building out a full database. Lazar was a great addition to the team for his short time with us, where he enthusiastically worked with our process engineering and manufacturing teams to move things forward. In fact, Lazar's work laid the foundation for our now fully-functioning database tool, used daily by our battery and materials engineers. We loved having him at Sakuu and hope he learned some useful lessons while with us."

If you would be interested in mentoring a current Oakwood student for their Senior Project, please contact Isaac Berniker, High School Head and Principal.
