Class of 2023 Oakwood alums and current UC Berkeley sophomores, Kacie Hwang and Maxwell Love, are on a mission to elevate hearts and minds. They have taken their philanthropic endeavors to the next level by creating The Celling Point.
“The Celling Point is the only student-run biotech newsletter at UC Berkeley, providing concise updates on the ever-evolving biotechnology industry. Our "celling point" is that we compile opportunities and form partnerships with local biotech companies to make the often-daunting process of internship searching as seamless as possible.
That being said, we don’t want to be just another generic news outlet; our mantra is "For Students, By Students." In each issue, we spotlight a student, celebrating their accomplishments and aspirations because we believe in uplifting our campus community and uniting our enthusiasm for biotech. Not only do we highlight a student’s achievements and experience, but we also give them the chance to contribute an op-ed on any recent biotech news story or development they find fascinating. We see this as a unique opportunity to bring fresh and diverse viewpoints to our readers!
The research behind each issue is both a passion and a process. At UC Berkeley, we are pursuing studies in both Molecular and Cell Biology as well as Business Administration. This dual focus gives us a unique perspective. We dig into the latest biotech research and follow industry trends to deliver concise and relevant content of a field that is rapidly growing and essential to our studies.
It is truly an honor to share this passion project of ours with our Oakwood community. We hope our newsletter reflects that same spirit of community and connection that Oakwood has inspired us to strive for. By sharing student perspectives and providing opportunities, we hope to uplift our peers at Berkeley. Oakwood has, without a doubt, inspired and impacted the founding story of The Celling Point, and as the younger generations at Oakwood go on to do beautiful things, we hope they will find valuable knowledge and sincerity in each of our issues.
Before we sign off, we couldn’t help but end with a little shameless self-promo… With that said, if you ever find yourself wondering what students at UC Berkeley are up to or what million-dollar acquisition just went down, give The Celling Point a read! Subscribe for free, cancel anytime, and the world of biotech awaits!”
