Vinod Family
"Our children have developed a strong sense of independence, critical thinking skills, and a deep appreciation for diversity during their time at Oakwood. In addition to that, Oakwood provides students with rigorous coursework that prepares our children well for college. It was important for our family to volunteer for classroom activities as well as campus-wide events because it allowed our family to actively participate in the school community. This really helped to create a supportive environment for our children as well as the other kids at school. When we support Oakwood through events such as the Annual Giving, the Fund Run, the Auction, and other fundraising campaigns, we ensure that the school can continue to provide exceptional educational experiences and resources for all students, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for our children.
We felt a true sense of belonging at Oakwood when we experienced the warm and welcoming spirit of the Oakwood community from both the staff and the families of other students. We truly love Oakwood.
Being a host family was probably one of the best decisions we ever made. But it was only by chance that we got our first international student in November of 2020. Sandro was in between host families and needed a temporary place to stay while the school found him a more permanent home. My son Konark came home one day from school and asked us, 'Hey Mom and Dad? Can this boy come and stay with us for just a month? He is really very sweet and needs a temporary place to stay.' And we just jumped at it–of course he could stay with us. Long story short–we all fell in love with him and he ended up staying with us for the next two years till he graduated. Then his brother Luka came along and stayed with us for one year after that till he also graduated with our youngest daughter Amaya. These boys meant the world to us and very quickly became part of the family. Our families became forever intertwined.”
