Ashwin shares, "Formula SAE is a collegiate competition where teams across the world design, build, and compete their own formula-style race cars. I joined SJSU's Formula SAE my freshman year and it’s both a career path and passion for me.  I'm a fifth-year Mechanical Engineering student and this is my fifth year on the team. I've has been a part of the vehicle dynamics team developing a launch control system for SR-12B, and led the powertrain team for SR-13. The capstone of my Spartan Racing career was taking on the role of chief engineer for SR-14. I'm is currently our chassis lead and hopes to refine our design and graduate this year!"

About the competition, Ashwin tells us, "This event was in Riverside and it was called 'SoCal shootout' where around 16 California Formula SAE teams competed for the best time around a Karting track. Our team won 1st place (out of 3) for our 2023 electric car (blue) and 3rd place (out of 13) for our old 2022 internal combustion car (white, which I drove)."

Ashwin also visited Oakwood HS students in January 2023 to share about his college experience at San Jose State University.
