Lower School PE Games of the Month!

Last week in PE, all Oakwood Elementary School classes participated in an exciting playoff to vote for their favorite game of the month. They began with eight popular games and progressed through a bracket system to determine the ultimate favorite. Once the winning game was chosen, everyone enjoyed playing it for the remainder of the class period! The kids had so much fun thinking about all of the games so far this year, and this is something that they can look forward to each month.

One of the standout games among 2nd to 5th grade students was Dr. Dodgeball. In this dynamic game, two "doctors" equipped with scooter boards serve as ambulances, rushing to save teammates who have been hit by a dodgeball. The doctors transport the fallen players to the "hospital"—a green pad—allowing them to rejoin the action. This game was filled with excitement and strategy as students worked to protect their doctors and secure victory!

Another favorite was Pac-Man Tag, a lively line tag game that begins with one Pac-Man running around and clapping their hands. If tagged, players become Pac Men themselves, and the last person standing wins.

Swamp "Shrek" Ball is a unique twist on dodgeball. When players are hit, they must retreat to the "swamp" on the opposite side of the field. To escape, a teammate must successfully throw a ball into the swamp for them to catch.

Andy’s Coming is an imaginative game where kids act as "toys," moving around the gym using various locomotor movements. When the music stops and I shout “Andy’s Coming,” they must freeze in place, lying down like toys until Andy has left.

Similarly, Dead Bugs involves students moving around the gym while music plays. When the music halts, they drop to the ground and lie still like bugs!

In Angry Birds, the concept is similar to dodgeball, but instead of targeting players, teams aim to knock over bowling pins and Hula Huts. Each player acts as a catapult, throwing balls (the angry birds) at the "pigs" (bowling pins) and their structures (Hula Huts). This engaging game not only enhances their overhand throwing skills but also promotes teamwork and strategy. It was a joy to see the kids collaborate, with the first team to topple all the pins and structures declared the winner!
