Oakwood Middle School Mechatronics Lab students finished their capstone projects at the close of the school year. After learning computer-aided design and fabrication techniques, including tapping, soldering, and crimping, students designed projects in TinkerCad and Fusion360. They 3D-printed their objects and then incorporated various electronic components, such as servomotors, MEMS sensors, OLED displays, and RGB LEDs, with their small computer boards and tied all the pieces together with embedded Python code that they wrote. Projects included: a functional model of a 3D printer, a walking robot, a "Guitar Hero" type rhythm game, a crane, a digital magic-8 ball (cube), and a nightlight!
