Oakwood School 3rd grade students recently traveled nearly 3,000 years into the past for A Day in Ancient Rome. Students arrived dressed in the height of fashion from the 750s BCE and kicked off the day with a Rome Day Fashion Show, strutting down the catwalk and proudly announcing their social status as patricians, plebeians, senators, and soldiers. As Roman engineers, students tested the aqueducts they designed in science and also constructed a Roman road dessert by layering delicious “boulders,” gravel, and cobblestone to enjoy during their Roman Feast.

As Roman artists, students created frescoes and designed bean mosaics inspired by the great Roman masters. The day would not have been complete without a feast fit for the Forum, featuring some of Rome’s favorite foods. The celebration concluded in true Roman spirit with Gladiator Games, where students competed honorably—demonstrating teamwork, enthusiasm, and good sportsmanship—to earn their civic crowns.
