Oakwood School 3rd grade students recently embarked on an exciting journey into the world of Ancient Rome, immersing themselves in hands-on activities that brought their history studies to life.

The day began with a focus on Roman engineering, as students experimented with aqueducts they had constructed during their science lessons. Their math lesson took a historical twist as they explored Roman numerals through interactive activities that deepened their understanding of these ancient symbols. They also discovered the ingenuity of Roman roads—both in structure and taste—by creating edible Roman roads, which doubled as dessert during their Roman-inspired feast.

After the feast, students tapped into their artistic talents by assembling bean mosaics to replicate the beauty of Ancient Roman art. To close out the day, they practiced the famous testudo formation on their way to Coach Sugai’s gladiator games, using shields they had crafted themselves. These activities fostered teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship, all while making history an unforgettable experience.

Finally, each student was crowned with a golden laurel wreath, marking a triumphant end to an amazing day of discovery and fun!
