Oakwood School's 5th grade students showed their teamwork and problem-solving skills in the 2026 FIRST LEGO League Challenge competition, marking the culmination of weeks spent building, programming, and testing their team robots. Eight teams of six students each collaborated in Mrs. Lyle's Technology class to design and program robots to complete tasks based on the challenge theme, "Masterpiece." Using motors, sensors, and programming skills, the students created robots that autonomously navigated the field and interacted with mission models to earn points. One of FIRST's core philosophies, gracious professionalism, was evident throughout the event, as students cheered each other on and shared in the emotional rollercoaster of competition. High school engineering students refereed and judged the competition, offering feedback and encouragement to their younger peers. Mr. Lyle, Program Lead: Engineering and Maker Education, served as emcee for the event, guiding the tournament and keeping the excitement high. Congratulations to all participants for their achievements!
