Happy Lunar New Year
On Tuesday, January 28, Oakwood School Kindergarten students welcomed two special guests as part of their "Holidays Around the World" history unit. Kinder parents Mr. Ouyang and Mrs. Chen introduced the class to China and Taiwan and shared traditions observed during the transition from the old year to the Lunar New Year.
The guests brought a pop-up book that explained customs and traditions of the holiday. Students discussed family feasts and their favorite dishes. They watched video clips of Lion Dancers, the Dragon Dance, and the release of lanterns into the sky with good wishes.
Students also explored Lunar New Year decorations, red envelopes, and banners. Before the visit ended, they learned how to wish others a Happy Lunar New Year in Chinese and received treats and tokens to remember the lesson. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Ouyang and Mrs. Chen for generously sharing their time and knowledge with the students.
