On the evening of Wednesday, May 6, the Morgan Hill City Council chambers were filled to the brim with Oakwood School pride as students and leadership were recognized for their outstanding contributions to science, civic engagement, and community building. It was a night that highlighted not just individual brilliance, but also the longstanding partnership between Oakwood School and the City of Morgan Hill. The evening kicked off with a celebration of academic excellence. Oakwood 8th grade student Anwita A. was officially recognized for her success as a Santa Clara Valley Science & Engineering Fair Winner. Her hard work and innovative spirit represent the very best of Oakwood's commitment to high academic expectations and unbridled exploration. Oakwood's presence on the Morgan Hill Youth Action Council (YAC) has never been stronger. The council paused to honor two hardworking, dedicated students for their service to the city: graduating senior Arya Vaid and sophomore Kazumi Watanabe were both celebrated for their ongoing contributions to the council's goal. In a special moment of reflection, the City Council honored Oakwood School for its unwavering support of the Youth Action Council since 2014. Head of School Michelle Helvey, alongside YAC members and Oakwood students, Aakash Shakya and Ria Deshpande, stepped forward to accept this recognition. For over a decade, Oakwood has been a cornerstone partner in developing local youth leadership. The Council concluded the evening with a heartfelt tribute to our own Head of School, Michelle Helvey, who was presented with a Certificate of Recognition by Mayor Mark Turner. The award honored her longstanding leadership at Oakwood School and her contributions to the Morgan Hill community. For nearly three decades, under the leadership of Michelle Helvey, alongside her husband and co-founder Ted Helvey, Oakwood has played a vital role in the evolution of Morgan Hill, helping to shape it into a premier community where families choose to put down roots and build their lives.
