Oakwood High School's Varsity Track team had an impressive start to the season at their meet on Thursday, March 12 at Gonzales High School, earning five first-place finishes, two seconds, and one third. Junior Brendan Lyle led the team with a standout performance, winning the 400m with a time of 54.96 and setting a new school record. He also placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.99, which was also a new school record. Sophomore Jett Alexander also had a big day, winning the high jump with a height of 5'7", setting another school record for Oakwood. Junior Nalani Goulart and Junior Porter Banks also added first-place finishes for the team. Goulart won both the 100m and 200m races, while Banks placed first in discus with a throw of 80'8". Other strong performances came from Junior Kate Praserthdam, who placed second in both the high jump and long jump, and Sophomore Joey Maggi, who placed third in the high jump. Both Sophomore Jett Alexander and Sophomore Joey Maggi jumped higher than the previous school record. Head Coach Anthony Ruiz praised the team's performance after the meet, saying, "We had many standout performances today. Every Oakwood athlete did a great job in their events and should be very proud of their achievements. It was a great way to start the season and I am excited to see what we can accomplish in future meets."
