Inaugural Oakwood Spirit Cup Reaches Thrilling Spring Finale

The Oakwood School Athletic Center was electric on Friday, May 8, 2026, as the entire preschool through 12th grade community gathered for the spring finale of the first-ever Oakwood Spirit Cup. Introduced this school year, the Spirit Cup is an all-school house system designed to build school spirit, foster meaningful camaraderie across divisions, and encourage friendly competition. Throughout the year, students competed in athletic, academic, creative, and service challenges to rack up points for their respective houses: Team Green and Team White.

The stakes could not have been higher heading into the morning all-school event. Division Heads acting as "The Tribunal" judges announced a razor-thin official score check to start the event — Team Green: 41 points and Team White: 38. With only three points separating the teams, the year's final challenges were set to decide who would walk away with the historic inaugural cup.

Following high-energy walk-ins from Upper School spring teams and a thunderous preschool through 5th grade Lower School spirit roll call, the games officially began. The finale featured uniquely collaborative challenges pairing older and younger students from the same house. In a tense round of Catch the Beanie Babies in Oversized Pants, kindergarten students through high school students strategized together, while the Five-Legged Race demanded perfect synchronicity between students and faculty.

In the end, Team Green held on to win the Spirit Cup, 44-40. However, the true victory has been the unity the Spirit Cup brought to the Oakwood community. By bridging the gap between preschool classrooms and high school hallways, this first year has laid the foundation for a brilliant new campus tradition.
