On Tuesday, April 21, Oakwood High School junior Kate Praserthdam was featured in the Student Spotlight as she delivered her 11th grade Honors Biology presentation to staff and faculty in the Oakwood Theatre.

This project-based learning unit focuses on human body systems in health and disease, with an emphasis on modern developments in medicine. As part of the assignment, students built three-dimensional models representing an organ system, pathogen, or treatment, and designed TED Talk–style presentations that emphasized clarity and concision.

Kate's model highlighted a targeted lipid nanoparticle carrying a drug payload, designed to dock with receptors on the surface of a cancer cell. Her presentation explored how targeted nanoparticles are being developed to improve chemotherapy treatments.

This project reflects Oakwood's commitment to student agency and confident self-expression, empowering students to become passionate experts and share their knowledge with authenticity and purpose.
