Oakwood High School senior Lucas Tompkins has committed to Saint Mary's College of California, where he will compete in breaststroke and individual medley events as part of the Gaels' newly launched Division I swimming program.

Saint Mary's announced its men's and women's swimming and water polo teams in September 2025, with the programs set to make their debut in the 2026-2027 academic year as members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. While the school has long been recognized for basketball, the addition of aquatics marks a bold new chapter — and Lucas will be among the inaugural class helping to build that foundation from the ground up.

Lucas earned an athletic scholarship following an outstanding career at Oakwood. He was an 8-time First Team All-League selection and a 4-time division champion and record holder in both the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley. He qualified for CCS all four years and reached the CCS Finals in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing 6th overall. In 2025, Lucas qualified for the California State Championships, advanced to the finals in the 100 Breaststroke, and placed 16th in the state. His career culminated in earning All-American honors.
