Mapping the Road to College: A Guide for 11th Grade
Kevin Krasnow

Kevin Krasnow, Director of College Counseling, led a College Night for Oakwood High School 11th grade students and their families, offering guidance on refining college lists and preparing for the application process ahead. Krasnow outlined six areas to consider when evaluating college fit: academics, campus community, student experience, career opportunities, financial considerations, and personal fit. He encouraged students to consider which schools align with their interests, goals, and priorities. Looking ahead to summer 2027, he highlighted opportunities such as college summer programs, internships, and volunteer experiences. He also emphasized the importance of getting to know teachers through meaningful engagement in and beyond the classroom.

The evening also featured Kaylene McLaughlin, Regional Manager of California Admission at the University of Arizona. A Gilroy native, McLaughlin shared her experience attending college out of state and spoke about considering colleges and universities beyond California and looking beyond rankings when building a college list. Together, the evening provided students and families with practical guidance as they navigate the college search and prepare for the application process.
