The Oakwood High School NyanSat team, led by Mr. and Mrs. Lyle, attended the CubeSat Developers Workshop 2025 at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, from April 22-24. The conference primarily featured participation from university students worldwide, alongside researchers from several international laboratories such as NASA Ames Research Center, as well as various other space related companies.

Five NyanSat team leads—Dillon Hall, Lauren Sorci, Porter Banks, Brendan Lyle, and Kayden Wang—presented on stage Thursday, talking about our mission. Additionally, the team showcased two posters: one on the “Development of Acoustic Systems for Structural Monitoring in CubeSats,” by Katya Starodub, Adhrit Sinha, Anaïs Cannieux, and Dhruvil Patel, and another on “Open-Source CubeSat Technology: Developing the Obi Wan Computer and Combined Payload Board,” by Luke Titi, Ethan Vo, Ruchir Kavulli (alumnus '24), Ryan Beaulieu, and Robin Klingauf. The first poster displayed an innovative idea to use acoustic systems to tell whether deployables have deployed correctly. The second poster showcased the avionics work the team has done in creating our two main computer boards. Throughout the three days, Oakwood students attended presentations, engaged in scientific discussion about their own posters and presentations, while discussing with other companies and students. On Tuesday, the NyanSat team participated in a networking dinner to meet people at the conference.

Cal Poly student and Oakwood alumna Jillian Bogosian ‘23, along with her teammates, gave the NyanSat team a tour of the Cal Poly PolySat Lab, where they were able to see how Cal Poly is creating and designing their satellites, including their two current missions. Oakwood students had the unique opportunity to listen to exciting talks on topics including recent updates and innovations in CubeSats, such as maneuvering and deorbiting techniques, and new generations of communication and radar systems. The Oakwood team also attended the Career Fair following the main workshop presentations, where students had the opportunity to speak with representatives from various companies and national laboratories. The NyanSat team is grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Lyle for creating such a unique opportunity for us.
