On Thursday, August 29, Oakwood alumni Kyle Khojasteh '22 and Ayana Wilmot '23 returned to their alma mater to share valuable insights with the 9th grade Advisory class. Both alums reflected on their high school journeys, offering wisdom that resonated deeply with the students. Kyle, now an incoming junior majoring in Electrical Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and Ayana, an incoming sophomore at UCLA majoring in Economics with minors in Spanish and Accounting, emphasized the importance of being actively involved in school life. They both highlighted their experiences on the Varsity soccer team as some of the most memorable and rewarding moments of their high school years. Beyond sports, they encouraged students to explore other extracurricular activities such as plays, musicals, and ensembles, which not only allowed them to showcase their talents but also helped them build lasting connections with their peers. Additionally, Kyle and Ayana discussed the benefits of participating in student government and selecting service learning projects aligned with personal passions. They also provided practical advice on mastering time management and organizational skills to keep up with Oakwood’s rigorous academic demands. The freshmen were inspired by Kyle and Ayana's stories and left the session motivated to make the most of their high school experience, armed with the tools and advice shared by these successful alums.
