Wearing striking pink jerseys, The Oakwood Hawks Girls Varsity Volleyball Team went onto their home court with a goal far greater than winning. The girls were determined to fight for every point as they represented Breast Cancer Awareness Month, fighting for a cause that goes beyond the game of Volleyball.

The Hawks played an outstanding game sweeping their opponents Ceiba College Preparatory Academy in 3 Sets, winning 25-11, 25-14, and 25-16.

The girls played a great offensive game, led by Senior April Stillwell with 3 Kills, 2 Aces, and 4 Assists, along with her teammate Junior Isabelle Anderson, with an important 33 assists, 2 Aces, and 5 Kills to give the girls ahead of the game.

The Girls also played very well defensively to hold off Ceiba, with Junior Georgia Alves and Sophomore Nalani Goulart leading the team with 11 Digs for Alves and 10 for Goulart. Stilwell and Anderson also dominated at the net with each contributing 2 blocks.

Varsity Head Coach Anna-Liza Anderson stated “The girls had a lot of fun while they were playing. It was great to see that. As much as we want to see them be competitive, it's important to have fun as well.”

“Going into the second half of the season I'm pretty confident, we have been working hard and working together and winning,” added Anderson.

The Hawks will next take the court at home on Friday, October 11, facing off against Kirby School at 6 pm in the Oakwood Athletic Center.
