Oakwood High Students' Unforgettable Service Adventure in Costa Rica
Oakwood High School students recently returned from an unforgettable service adventure in Costa Rica. Their journey began with a visit to La Florida farm at Pura Suerte, where they explored the various products grown locally, such as coffee, cinnamon, and medicinal plants. They even had the chance to make their own empanadas, which they enjoyed with freshly brewed coffee.
Next, the students traveled to Nauyaca Waterfalls, where they spent time swimming and reflecting in solitude. The group then moved on to Pueblo Nuevo de Rivas, where they met their host families and shared a welcome dinner.
In Pueblo Nuevo de Rivas, the students embarked on their service project. They helped clean the site for an altar dedicated to La Reina de Los Angeles and constructed a walkway leading to the altar. Over three days, they worked on the project, bonded with their host families, took bachata and salsa dancing lessons, and participated in a farewell fiesta. Both students and families expressed their gratitude for the enriching experience.
The adventure continued as the group traveled to Uvita for surf lessons, concluding the day with refreshing granizados and smoothies. On their last day, the students enjoyed whitewater rafting on the Savegre River before heading to Alajuela for souvenir shopping, an evening at City Mall, and dinner.
As night fell, the guides dropped the group off at the airport. The students bid farewell to their wonderful Walking Tree guides, Carola and Celia, marking the end of their unforgettable Costa Rican journey.
