On Friday, September 4, the entire Oakwood student body from Preschool through 12th grade gathered for the first Spirit Assembly of the year. Students came together to show spirit and earn points for their multi-grade-level team of Green or White, with buddy grade levels paired together to rally each other.

Attendees were first led in cheers by the Oakwood Cheer Team, who got the crowd going in the right frame of mind, followed by everyone's favorite mascot, Thunder! Sports teams, leadership groups, and performing arts groups were introduced to the crowd in the style of a professional sports arena, and lower school classes showed off their spirit with a custom cheer from each grade level.

The enthusiasm kept building as contestants from several grade levels squared off to earn points for their house in Dinosaur Races, a fun and frequently hilarious competition. Racing in dinosaur suits is not as easy as it looks, but Oakwood students handled the challenge with vigor and focus. A memorable Oakwood moment occurred when a high school contestant slipped, but in true Oakwood Way fashion, a teammate carried them across the finish line.

Finally, teachers caused many a jaw to drop when they spontaneously broke out into a flash-mob dance number. Highlights were displayed on the new scoreboards for those who hoped to relive the moment.

The school spirit that filled the Athletic Center carried over to the rest of the day and set a spirited tone for the year ahead. Go Hawks!
