On Friday, August 22, 2025, Oakwood School gathered in the Athletic Center for the Fall Oakwood Spirit Kickoff, a new tradition designed to bring the entire Preschool–12th Grade community together in celebration of school spirit. The event opened with the Upper School walk-ins, led by the Cheer Team and the school mascot, Thunder, who set the tone with energy and enthusiasm. They were followed by introductions of the fall athletic teams, performance and competitive groups, and leadership councils. Each group was announced and welcomed into the Athletic Center, greeted with cheers from the rest of the community. The Lower School then joined the action with a spirited roll call. Each grade from Jr. K through 5th wowed the crowd with a short cheer, building excitement across the gym.

The highlight of the event was the introduction of the Oakwood Spirit Cup, a new house system that assigns every student, teacher, and staff to either Team Green or Team White. The Spirit Cup is designed to build school spirit, camaraderie, and friendly competition throughout the year. Students will compete in academic, athletic, creative, spirit, and service-based challenges, with Division Heads serving as The Tribunal to judge competitions. The year will culminate in the Oakwood Cup Finale in the spring, where the winning team will be awarded the Oakwood Spirit Cup.

To launch the Spirit Cup, two high-energy competitions were held. The first, a relay race, combined balloon popping, cone flipping, and pool noodle baton-passing. The second, the hula hoop tunnel relay, required teamwork and coordination as each team passed a hula hoop down the line without letting go of hands. Both races showcased the laughter, effort, and teamwork that embody Oakwood spirit.

The Kickoff set the tone for the year ahead, uniting students, faculty, and staff across all divisions. With the Spirit Cup now underway, Oakwood enters the 2025–2026 school year with energy, pride, and a new tradition that will continue to grow in the years to come.
