Oakwood School's 4th and 5th grade students participated in the 12th annual Medieval/Renaissance Faire on Wednesday, October 23. The students had a fun-filled packed day that started with a festive Opening Ceremony led by our beloved falconer, Kenny Elvin of Full Circle Falconry.

After the Opening Ceremony, the students rotated through various stations that helped them learn and experience Medieval and Renaissance times. They spent more time with the falconer and his amazing birds. They learned archery (thank you, Predator’s Archery), and participated in a jousting tournament (thank you, Dame Sugai). They experienced Shakespeare on the stage in our theater with Mrs. Blanchard. They learned about weaponry from Steaphen Ficke, our favorite expert from Davenriche European Martial Arts School (DEMAS), while his wife, Susan, taught them about daily life in Medieval times. They also took a turn at learning how to juggle from our own, Ms. Skye.

After this jam-packed morning, the students enjoyed a banquet feast and a Maypole dance performed by the 4th grade students and accompanied by the 5th grade students on their lutes (aka ukuleles). The fun didn’t stop there! They continued learning through leather stamping, creating medieval family crests, playing games from Medieval times, and building a Da Vinci flying machine.

Thanks to Mr. Mallette, Ms. Wright, Ms. Pompa, and Mrs. Sorensen for sharing their talents with us! And a huge thank you to all the parents for helping make this a memorable and awesome event! Huzzah!
