Operating on Grammar: 2nd Grade Students Tackle Contractions

Oakwood School 2nd grade students recently transformed their classroom into Oakwood Hospital for an immersive contraction surgery activity. Armed with their Patient Surgical Records books, students took on the role of grammar doctors, carefully removing letters to create contractions and then crafting sentences to put their new skills to work.

The hands-on activity made an otherwise abstract grammar concept tangible and fun, giving 2nd grade students a creative way to deepen their understanding of language mechanics — and plenty of reasons to smile while doing it.
