Last month, Oakwood High School rising seniors Mysha Bhatti and Sunjana Banwait, co-presidents of the South Asian Students Association (SASA), visited Maitri, a nonprofit organization in Santa Clara that supports South Asian women who are victims of domestic violence. The club raised $451 from bake sales during the previous school year and chose Maitri as the recipient of their donation.

SASA aims to represent and celebrate South Asian culture while supporting organizations like the Maitri Foundation. They organize cultural celebrations, such as Diwali, featuring traditional food, music, colorful decorations, and attire to immerse the Oakwood community in South Asian traditions. Additionally, they host fundraising events, including donut bars and bake sales, to generate funds for causes that positively impact and benefit the Bay Area's South Asian community.
