On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Oakwood School 2nd grade students embarked on an imaginative and immersive journey to America as part of a hands-on learning experience. Traveling together across the “ocean,” students sampled a typical snack enjoyed during their voyage before arriving at their new country.

Upon reaching America, students experienced what it may have been like for immigrants entering the United States, navigating long lines for medical and mental inspections before having their passports approved by the legal inspector, Mrs. Shales. After gaining entry, students enjoyed watching An American Tail while snacking on popcorn and sharing the treasured items they had packed in their suitcases.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this experiential learning day meaningful and memorable for Oakwood School’s 2nd grade students.
