Second Grade Students Experience Pioneer Day
Oakwood School 2nd grade students have been learning about the American Pioneer and America's westward expansion. Last week, they participated in a full-day celebration of Pioneers. During Pioneer Day, students, teachers, and parent volunteers came to school dressed up as pioneers and participated in a variety of activities that helped the children learn about life in the 1800s.
Students learned how to sew and make butter, planted flowers, and sang pioneer songs—even dancing to them! They participated in other educational activities like making paper dolls and playing pioneer games. The students were surprised that they enjoyed many of the same things that the children of pioneer times also enjoyed. It was a day of learning and a fun-filled day that will be very memorable for all involved!
