Spellbound in the Company of Alums!
Oakwood High School Alumni Ryan Bruning, '23, and Lee Stilwell, '23, teamed up and joined in a recent Senior Advisory. In 40 minutes they produced some serious magic! Responding to student questions they managed to paint a portrait of what college life is really like. They provided solid advice and did so by being incredibly relatable and injecting just the right amount of humor into their answers. Making what is pretty intimidating, the unknown of university and the idea of living independently, seem not only achievable but also a natural extension of their high school experience. Lee and Ryan captivated their audience, reassured them, and left a positive impression of what is to come.
Here is a sample of their wisdom:
"Oakwood taught me effective study techniques, especially for exams, as the rigor of college exams is very similar to those at Oakwood. The skills I gained there have been invaluable in my university studies."
~Lee Stilwell
Sophomore at USC majoring in Artificial Intelligence for Business.
"College is often regarded as the first major step into adulthood, which can be scary for many. However, Oakwood has fostered an environment that instills a sense of adulthood in students from the moment they join high school. Students are consistently encouraged to advocate for themselves and take on responsibilities that other high schoolers may not. Because of this, the transition from high school to college felt seamless to me and many other Oakwood graduates."
~Ryan Bruning
