Third Grade Students Connect Learning with Water District Visit

Oakwood School 3rd grade students enjoyed a special visit from the San Jose Water District for an engaging, hands-on presentation about watersheds. The visit served as a perfect culmination to their World Rivers unit, offering a real-world connection to their studies. The highlight came when students built their own watershed models, shaping mountains, valleys, and rivers from various materials. As they “rained” on their creations, they observed how water flowed through their miniature landscapes.

The interactive lesson deepened students’ understanding of the importance of protecting water sources and illustrated how their local environment connects to ecosystems around the world
