Varsity Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Live Oak
The Oakwood Girls Varsity Volleyball team stunned Morgan Hill rival Live Oak on September 17 in a comeback win in front of an electric crowd.
The Lady Hawks came back from down 2-1 to win the match in 5 sets. Sophomore Nalani Goulart and Senior Ella Gutierrez led the defense with the most digs. Senior Sunjuna Banwait helped with multiple blocks at important moments of the match, and also closed out the game with the final kill. Junior Isabelle Anderson led the offense with crucial assists and aces, and Sophia Fieler led the game with the most kills.
There was a big momentum shift in the Hawks favor after losing two consecutive sets 16-25. The Lady Hawks looked defeated, but after improving their defense and communication, they were able to spark a comeback and win the last two sets.
Standout player Sophia Fieler had this to say after the game: “We did really well at working together; there was a bit of a rough patch, but in the end, we came back from it.”
After the game, there was a lot of excitement as the Hawks are looking to complete a perfect week. According to Coach Anna-Lisa Anderson, the key things they need to work on to achieve this are “more communication” and “better energy.”
