Thanks & Giving is Oakwood's school-wide community service project, which encompasses our educational goal of being Community Contributors through Respect, Service, Cooperation, and Good Citizenship.
This meaningful event recognizes the opportunity to reach out to those in our community who are less fortunate. This year we asked families to donate funds that were used to purchase grocery store gift cards. These gift cards were then presented to Community Solutions who will distribute them to local families in need.
The Oakwood community gathered on Zoom together for a special all-school assembly. Head of School Michelle Helvey, along with upper school student council members, emceed the event. The audience watched videos highlighting our Thanks & Giving traditions. The first, spotlighting student contributions to the Thanks & Giving initiative. The second, featuring so many of the things our community is thankful for. Lastly, a tribute to the late Mrs. Curley, a beloved teacher at Oakwood who began the tradition of singing "Grateful for the little things" followed by a video of our Middle School Harmonettes performing this special song.
This year our Oakwood Community pitched in and made it possible for our school to donate 360 feast bins to Community Solutions! That equals 4,320 meals!
Thank you to everyone that continually contributes their time, talents, and generosity to make our community flourish.
