Neutrality Statement

At Oakwood School, in our pursuit to create “a culture of dignity that respects and authentically celebrates different backgrounds and viewpoints” in a learning environment where “confident curiosity” and “unbridled exploration” can flourish (see Oakwood’s Dignity Statement and Educational Philosophy), we are committed to maintaining principled institutional neutrality on political and social topics unrelated to our core mission. We understand that individuals of good character and genuine motives may have strong feelings about various political and social issues, and while such topics will undoubtedly be discussed inside and outside the classroom, the school expects its administration, faculty, and staff, in their formal capacities, to avoid the advocacy of a particular position, policy, program, philosophy, or candidate, and do everything in their power to maintain a safe environment of respect for diverse perspectives.
