We're jazzed about performing

Middle School

He has a lot to say, and he’s learning how to say it. Whether shy or bold, introverted or extroverted, spontaneous or methodical— Oakwood students graduate with the confidence and knowledge to project their voices thoughtfully from any stage.

Here, performing doesn’t mean pretending to be someone else. It means becoming your best self, and learning how to share that self with others.

That’s why we give all our students plenty of opportunities to perform in public—giving presentations in class, playing characters, singing, and dancing. It doesn’t happen all at once, but it does happen: Students begin to speak more clearly, listen more attentively, and challenge their own boundaries. Before you know it, your child is delivering a Shakespearean soliloquy in front of the school or becoming a standout on the debate team.

And, whatever the context, he’s communicating intelligently and respectfully—the key to success in any college, any career, any relationship.

We are Morgan Hill’s independent, non-sectarian, college-preparatory school for students in preschool through grade 12. Our diverse community, thriving on an expansive campus, provides a home for an extended family of learners. Here, we share our unwavering commitment to a more intentional education. To learn more about our educational philosophy, download our Upper School Brochure. The best way for your family to meet our family is to tour our scenic Morgan Hill campus, meet our teachers and students, and observe our learning in action. Our family looks forward to meeting yours.

Middle School Students Conclude 2020-2021 School Year with a Day of Celebration

Friday, May 28, the last day of school, was a jubilant day for Oakwood students and faculty. Middle School students began the day with an Awards Assembly, followed by time to sign classmate's yearbooks. Next, eighth-grade students opened a time capsule that they created during their sixth-grade year. The time capsule contained notes they each wrote to their "future selves" to provide wisdom and advice as they got older. Finally, to conclude the day's events for Middle School, students from all grades cheered the Class of 2021 during the Senior Walk. We wish all of the Oakwood Student a wonderful summer!

Middle School Students Create Virtual Reality Worlds

Students in Mrs. Wilmot's Introduction to Virtual Reality class have been creating VR worlds using HTML and the A-Frame JavaScript library. They learned how to create animations with 3D shapes like boxes, cones, cylinders, toruses and how to introduce both click-based and gaze-based interaction to their animations. They are also able to use 360 degree images in their animations. Students can view their VR creations on their computers, phones, or through an Oculus Rift. This was a challenging course for our middle school students, who learned to work with advanced frameworks more appropriate for high school, and we are proud of all that they have learned.

Annual Thanks & Giving Celebration Brings the Oakwood Community Together

Thanks & Giving is Oakwood's school-wide community service project, which encompasses our educational goal of being Community Contributors through Respect, Service, Cooperation, and Good Citizenship. This meaningful event recognizes the opportunity to reach out to those in our community who are less fortunate. This year we asked families to donate funds that were used to purchase grocery store gift cards. These gift cards were then presented to Community Solutions who will distribute them to local families in need.

Despite having just moved to a neighborhood with an “All 10” rated public school, our son was not being challenged academically and also came to feel unsafe while at school. I can’t begin to say enough about the dedication and quality of the teachers and administrators at Oakwood. The safety and support of the school is a value you can clearly see in every Oakwood teacher, student and alum. I do believe that Oakwood has been pivotal in getting our son’s education back on track, not just for high school, but in preparation for college and beyond.

Oakwood Parent

My son is most interested in being able to take the classes that he wants and in being with a group of serious, like-minded people, who want to get ahead. I love the motivated peer group and family at Oakwood. They are all concerned with education. The peer pressure that he has is all good.

Oakwood Parent

Oakwood has been the best educational decision we have made. We love the environment, the teachers, the structure and how the students interact with each other. Our daughter has thrived in this atmosphere.

Our daughters were welcomed into the Oakwood community like a family member returning from a journey. They have made wonderful friends and love their school!
