Language Arts

At Oakwood, we believe that the ability to communicate effectively through the written word is of paramount importance, in education and in life. For that reason, the Middle School Language Arts program is comprised of both a writing/language course as well as a literature course. Literature introduces students to the exploration of classical, contemporary, and informational texts, along with the literary devices and text structures used to analyze those works. Writing and Language Study courses focus on the study of grammar usage and mechanics and vocabulary, with a special focus on the process and art of writing.
